The Appalachian Trail

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to do something I have not done since I was a child, hike a very, very small section of the Appalachian Trail.  It was organized by a coworker who hikes on a regular basis.

What started as an easy hike to Bake Oven Knob, the highest point in Lehigh County PA,

turned into a moderate jaunt as we continued to a shelter on the trail.

Rock climbing became a part of the experience and at the conclusion of our hike we all asked when can we do this again!

  1. Way back when, on one of our Blue Ridge Parkway drives, we took the time to hike parts of the trail.

This was in the 80’s, and I remember meeting people who were planning to hike the whole trail. More than I would want to do, but the idea sounds nice.

The part we walked did not have us climbing over rocks. It was fairly wide and well-maintained.

    Thanks for the post.
